Why Puppy Classes? And why at Lynwood Vets?
At Lynwood, we take pride in our dedication to the care and welfare of animals throughout their lives and as early socialisation experience is very important for your puppy we hold once weekly puppy socialisation classes at our Wimborne, Bournemouth and Wareham practices.
They are designed to provide socialisation for young puppies that, owing to their vaccination status, cannot mix with other adult dogs yet. The classes are designed for puppies between the ages of 8 and 12 weeks old as this is the critical period in their development. How they are treated and what they experience during this time can affect their behaviour for the rest of their lives.
Our puppy socialisation classes are a great way for you and your puppy to learn. Socialisation and preventative care are important for a healthy, happy life together. At our classes, your puppy can make friends with others of a similar age in a supervised, secure environment.
Having the classes at the vets allows the puppies to see the vets as a positive place. This means that if they become unwell they will be less concerned about coming to the vets and this makes it less stressful to all concerned.
Each week we will be teaching a variety of topics from how to stop biting and mouthing, to toilet training tips. So by the end of the course you will have a good knowledge of puppy care and dog health.
Each week we will also practice handling the puppies for examination and we will have different sounds and objects for the puppies to get used to.
To attend the classes the puppies must be registered with the practice, have had their first vaccination and will need to book in for their 1st one to one session with one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses, they will then be able to attend the 4 weekly sessions alongside other puppies.
We hope you and your puppy can come along. To book please call your local branch or drop into the practice. Numbers are restricted due to space, so we offer places on a first-come first-served basis.
We look forward to seeing you and your puppy soon.
What do I need to bring to the classes?
Please be aware that we only have room for two family members for each puppy.
