About us
The Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing was established, in an independent right, in 1996, as a result of what had initially been the response found by the Lynwood Veterinary Group to its own regime of veterinary nurse training, leading on from the national trend in veterinary nurse training at the time.
Initially the Lynwood Veterinary Group looked to put in place a nurse manager to provide a liaison between the nursing team and partnership and also to oversee and improve veterinary nurse training results for the Group. Valerie Smith was employed for this provision, having previously been involved with nurse training at a renowned agricultural college.
The first few years saw excellent results being achieved by Lynwood’s own students which far exceeded the national average, news of which naturally reached neighbouring practices. The demand for an improved delivery of veterinary nurse training locally grew to the extent that new premises were required. Initially based at the Wimborne branch of Lynwood Veterinary Group, now over ten years later the Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing is based in Poundbury, Dorchester.
When Veterinary Nursing also became an NVQ some years ago, Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing also gained approval to become a Veterinary Nursing Approved Centre (VNAC), and we now have more than thirty approved veterinary nurse training practices under our care, across Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire.
